I have the Vista pro defender virus, Norton didnt fix it. I found Hitman and Super anti-spyware free downloads on this site, but my computer says open with which program? I thought clicking run would start the program automatically! What program can run the anti-spyware app? Is my computer infected? Help?

I had a virus that attached itself to the opening of programs. When I would try to open firefox, iTunes, etc, the fake security suite would appear. I finally was able to delete it from my registry but it has caused considerable damage.
When I try to open a program, or any .exe program I get the following error:
“This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.”
This happens with everything from Firefox to trying to change my mouse pointer. It says there is no associated program. I can’t even open World! Thank you.

My internet is alot slower than usual, and the connection has reset itself a couple times today in the middle of browsing. I’ve recently downloaded several freeware firewalls and real-time security programs (Comodo, Avira, SpywareTerminator, Spywareblaster, and Avast Antivirus) that I’m testing to see what to recommend to my friends and family, and I’m also downloading several large programs with uTorrent. Would either of these projects significantly slow my connection, and if so, which is more likely the culprit? If not, is it a simple issue with my network that I can repair easily?

I have an internet connection..I’m positive I do. So I’m guessing the virus that’s on my computer(Antivirus 7) won’t let me install it. I want to know how can I get around that. ..And I have deleted all the shortcuts and applications that came with AV7. but im thinking it’s still in the registry maybe. Because I see the little AV7 sheild symbol on my AntiMalware Bytes shortcut. That’s whats making me think it’s still on my system.

I want to backup my vista and windows 7 systems. If the software has easy recovery steps that would be a plus.

I’ve used Windows Live One Care for 3 years and only just found out that MS has killed the product ! Is there a comparable product out there ( Norton/McAfee/Kapersnky etc) that 1. effective 2. Covers 3 computers and 3. Has an autobackup feature ( like onecare).
